Google Developer day London here we are!

07:00 we are in the plane heading for Heathrow. We'll be back with more in the UK

09:30 (UK Time) Marc and I are @ Google in the Invaders Lounge @ Wembley Stadium. Registration was fast and we all got a gift. Marc is getting excited.... The show is about to start at 10:00. We'll see what happens.. Here is a pic of the stadium.

10:55 first demo of android phone!!! Android can be compared to an operation system like the one that is running on the iPhone. There were some amazing demos.

11:00 The next session is about to begin. We had a nice introduction in what Google is currently providing the developers to use the Web. Marc is now attending a Google Gears (offline WebApplication) and I'm looking into the Google App Engine. Very interesting. The nice part is that we have a Google Engineer who is a developer on Google WebToolkit and willing to check out our application that we are going to launch very soon. Our target is also large scale applications on the web with desktop possibilities, It would be a nice showcase for Google of course. So we are keeping our fingers crossed.

11:40 The Google AppEngine uses an Object Oriented Database and uses a Query Language;JQL. THe dataretrieval is fast.
There is no scanning involved. So no relational database.

12:25 There is a break now. Marc is still somewhere. In the meanwhile, I found a moment to make the following shots.
Three guesses where we are now... Next up it the presentation on the YouTube api. Very interesting, also for business purposes (since a good image is worth a thousands words, imagine a sequence of images...)

14:30 Marc and I are having a nice lunch. We just had a YoutTube presentation and there were some nice and unknown features to us. Furthermore, there is an official YouTube video from Google Develoeprs Days UK and I placed a Video Response for it (and of course already sneakpeaking to our product !!). Check this link

In two hours time we already have to leave this event. Time flies when you are having fun!!

15:30 We are currently attending a presentation on the Google Data API, which uses REST protocol. We were at a presentation on Google Data Visualization. Check this link to get an impression of what this is.

17:22  We just had the presentation on V8, The Javascript Engine that makes Chrome the fastest browser so far. The presentation was very interesting and very lowlevel sometimes (inline caching, assembler code, garbage collection). A true engineering product.

So now the Developer Day is over for us. I think I can say that it was interesting and for our product we found some interesting ideas. So we are heading home, catching our flight and Google Developer Day see you in 2009 !!!

Leuk! Volgens mij is dat de zelfde conferentieruimte waar Oracle Appsworld een paar jaar geleden is gehouden. Als dat zo is dan is het a pretty big place !

Veel plezier, ben benieuwd naar jullie verhalen.
